The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become known for lots of things – great action, award-worthy special effects and production design, fantastic characters, and unprecedented levels of connectivity between its movies – but it’s also got a reputation for something else.

While the franchise HAS killed-off SOME characters permanently, more often than not, the deaths shown in MCU movies end up being fake-outs – meaning the characters who “die” end up returning. It’s become something of a bone of contention amongst fans.

In this video, we’ll look at the occasions on which the MCU tricked us with character deaths.

The fake-out deaths in question are; Emil Blonsky in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Loki in 2011’s Thor, Bucky Barnes, Red Skull and Captain America in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Phil Coulson in 2012’s The Avengers, Pepper Potts in 2013’s Iron Man 3, Loki in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, Nick Fury and Brock Rumlow in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Groot in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, J.A.R.V.I.S. in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Janet van Dyne in 2015’s Ant-Man, James Rhodes in the marketing for 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa in Black Panther, and Loki, Gamora, Thor and the victims of the Decimation in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
